15 jun Dr. Aki Murata visiting scholar in the Netherlands
Aki Murata is currently a visiting scholar at the Freudenthal Institute, Utrecht. Aki is globally known as a lesson study and elementary mathematics education expert and has engaged in numerous projects since 2001. She uses LS as a research setting as well as teacher professional development, and synergistically informs her work with teachers with the LS research findings. Aki has previously served as a professor of education at Stanford University and university of California-Berkeley, USA, introducing and designing LS as a part of mathematics teaching methods courses with preservice teachers. She strives to develop and nurture international LS communities, and has taken part in multiple cross-cultural research projects using LS, facilitating communications among educators from different countries. Her work has been widely referenced by LS researchers, and some of her papers are considered seminal pieces in the field.
